Shadow Point 05:39
From your viewpoint Here after midnight What do spirits tell you? Secret talking Reflection apparitions Spirit photography and ouija boards You can call upon me Cast your ghostly shadow Anytime you're lonely Cold wind sleeps beside me In a momentary lapse of season You float me down the hall Icy motion capture Figurines on fire Headless torso Or none at all You can call upon me Cast your ghostly shadow Anytime you're lonely Cold wind sleeps beside me I'm calling through the haze We're out of phase I push the needle on the board to spell a word The broken curse I push my fingers through the TV Electrify my body tonight Outside We feel connected We won't reject it This communion The hour has come All our lives Hidden spirit secrets inside Before we die We should set them outside In the night Moonbeams come alive

When I was younger I thought my love was all you'd need How wrong I was I couldn't give enough to satisfy your greed And when it was over I looked back to see what I could change But it's not my fault I realize now I couldn't give you everything Now even that didn't last You pushed the two you left me for Now we're closer without you Observe your destruction from a safe place Are you still sure polyamory is the thing that you need? Cos I'm not convinced you can handle it You couldn't even handle me You wanna get another lover Why'd you wanna get another lover? Introducing another lover Why'd you wanna get another lover?

There is a boy downtown And he says that he'd like to get to know you But his profile reads quite differently It seems that discretion is the key Cos I know I've been in his shoes before Found myself in funny situations But what does it mean? This boy's biology is not for you and me A faceless screen of some wishful xenology That's right here in front of me What could have been something more meaningful Instead of useless and forgettable There is a boy downtown And he says he's been watching our chemistry On his telephone screen And I don't wanna find out exactly what he's on about No I don't care what it means But there's a bar downtown Where similar souls can meet And get fucked up in the street And another hangout I know Where names don't mean anything Just be careful in the heat Cos I know I've been in his shoes before Found myself in funny situations But what does it mean? This boy's biology is not for you and me A faceless screen of some wishful xenology That's right here in front of me What could have been something more meaningful Instead of useless and forgettable I know I'm not the one for you

Nightwear 04:32
A light fantasy was not meant to be Quite so sticky like syrup on ice cream Lick the sugar, honey Tasty, so sweet You lick your lips Why do you do this to me? No-one else was meant to know your secret No-one else was meant to know I can keep it No-one else was meant to know but me A camera fantasy was not meant for the day Your nightwear gave everything away I'm a criminal in our sewing circle Just say the words I need to hear and it goes away No-one else was meant to know your secret No-one else was meant to know I can keep it No-one else was meant to know so delicious No-one else was meant to know our secret No-one else was meant to know am I dreaming No-one else was meant to know he's the sweetest No-one else was meant to know but me But me, yeah No-one else was meant to know your secret's out No-one else was meant to know I can't keep this up No-one else was meant to know but me But it wasn't me

Subtraction 04:15
Standing in your garden Moonlight on our skin Just watching life happen Don't know where to begin A kiss feels like heaven Your body against mine But now it's all over It's time to say goodbye Every moment lasts forever Every secret has its tether Every touch is a lifeline Just you and me in the night-time Hand in hand in the park Out of focus in the dark Here inside no face remembered Just a sensation and a texture

Non Fiction 08:16
We could write our story down Would anyone believe it? I don't know That so much drama could happen at once To a boy in such a short time Too much for another boy to take First we're born and we're alive Then we get sick and then we die Just like a love is born Then it grows In time it fades and goes But not all love, I know I'd lie awake at night and scream "Fuck knows when I'll find the one"
9.
The Cross 06:16
I miss the feeling of your shape In my hands and in my brain All those games we used to play I miss the feeling of your drip As from my memory you slip A secret language in our messages And I'll never never be in love

about

Stripped of monikers and aliases, Ian Dominic Breen presents a raw portrait of himself and his surroundings on debut album Out Of Focus In The Dark. At Its surface, Out Of Focus… is a pop fantasy harkening back to the days of New Order and Depeche Mode. With this as his vehicle, Breen explores his own vulnerability through vocals and lyricism that are sensual, honest and often flamboyant, using personal anecdotes to explore both heart and hometown.

Elements of his city and its drab allure are the backdrop to his stories, as Manchester is a place of perpetual grey skies and sprawling industrialization. These aesthetic elements echo through the mechanical percussion and icy synth landscapes employed within the record. The instrumentals are crafted in such a meticulous way, invoking the feeling of lighting an early morning cigarette in the parking lot of a motel, alone in the middle of nowhere, engulfed in the deafening lack of life around you, sitting with your darkest thoughts.
